The Sensei and Ninomiya-kun video game.

Sensei and Ninomiya-kun is a relationship drama show-within-a-show that plays throughout the first season, with the Minami sisters watching it on a regular basis. It centers on the forbidden love affair between the student Ninomiya-kun and the man who is her teacher, Sensei. While starting off with a reasonable, if somewhat cheesy scene in Minami-ke Episode 1,[1] the show quickly devolves into a parody of all relationship shows, getting more and more ridiculous, with many hilarious twists, culminating in a happy ending at the end of season one. Part of the joke of the series is that no one ever calls the characters anything but "Sensei" or "Ninomiya-kun", even the doctors who might be expected to call Sensei something else. Further, the characters spend an inordinate amount of time yelling their names emotionally at each other.

The show has two known spin-offs with the universe of Minami-ke, one which appears to be a magic show,[2] and the other a nonsensical, multigenre video game.[3]

The plot can only be gleaned from snippets seen within Minami-ke. First, Sensei is seen proclaiming her love to Ninomiya, saying that from now on he will stop denying their love. They then share a passionate kiss.[4]

Later, Sensei chases down Ninomiya in the rain, and they ecstatically attempt to reunite in the middle of a crosswalk, but Ninomiya is hit by a car[5] and develops amnesia. Afterward, Ninomiya escapes from the hospital in a delirious state, returning to the same location, Sensei encounters her, runs to her, and gets hit by a car, developing amnesia.[6]

Then, they both escape from the hospital, and this time the doctor and nurse chase them down. The doctor runs into the roadway, heroically trying to prevent a third accident, but this backfires when the car swerves to miss him and hits Sensei and Ninomiya.[7]

Eventually, in the "ten hour season finale", a scene occurs with Ninomiya at the edge of an ocean cliff, telling Sensei not to come any closer. Sensei implores her to be reasonable. A car is shown speeding rapidly, just like it did before just before the previous crashes, but this car drives right by them on the freeway behind Sensei, prompting Sensei to comment "Good, the car missed us." Ninomiya then falls off the cliff, but the special effects were obviously done with a doll.[8] Finally, at the end, Sensei and Ninomiya are shown getting happily married, ending the series.[9]
