Minami is the family name the anime is named after. There are two distinctive families:
- The Minami Family consisting of Haruka, Kana & Chiaki. Their relative Takeru's last name is not mentioned but is almost certainly not Minami, since he is their mother's older sister's son, and would inherit the family name of his father.
- The Other Minami Family consisting of Touma, Natsuki, Akira & Haruo
